Ginger Freebie: Sew Grateful Week Giveaway!

Hi, guys!  Happy Sew Grateful Week!  I’m so happy that Debi dreamed up this little holiday as a chance to express our gratitude to the online sewing community.  I’m blown away by the generosity, encouragement, and creativity you guys pour out constantly!  I’m feeling especially lucky this week, which says a lot, since I always feel lucky to be a part of this group.  First, I received a package in the mail this week– the vintage knitting booklet that I won in Kerry’s giveaway at Kestrel Finds and Makes!

I just wish I had a wig as beautiful as the lady on the left!

The booklet is filled with amazing Aran designs– I particularly love the cardigan on the left in the photo above.  Gorgeous!

Then, I was so pleased to wake up Saturday morning and find that I’d won Nettie’s giveaway on Sown Brooklyn for a Pattern Runway pattern!  I’ve been in love with this since the pattern was announced right before Christmas, but trying to be strong and stick to my budget:

...drool...

It’s the One Shouldered Bow Party Dress– isn’t it perfect?  I’m really excited to make it in a sophisticated grey or a midnight blue… perfect for cocktail parties or winter weddings!  A million thanks to Kerry and Nettie!!  If you’re not familiar with their blogs, you should check them out!  They’re both unique and creative makers with entertaining voices and killer style!

So, I’d like to pass along the love and host a little giveaway here on the blog!  I picked out a few lovelies that I hope you guys will enjoy!  First up, this fabric:

This is 2.5 yards of rayon in a vibrant coral hue– it’s from Paron Fabrics in NYC and it’s a remnant from Christian Dior, if that piques anybody’s interest (60″ selvedge).  It’s absolutely gorgeous, in my opinion, and I’m hoping that someone out there makes something really special with it!

I didn’t want to leave out my knitting friends, so I’m also giving away this yarn:

This is two skeins of Koigu Painter’s Palette Premium Merino, a soft and strong fingering-weight yarn.  I’m sure this will knit up beautifully!

Feel free to enter for a chance to win the yarn and/or the fabric by leaving a comment here.  International shipping is fine, and you can enter until Friday, February 10th at 11:59PM EST.  Yay!

Happy Sew Grateful Week, everybody!  I really do want you to know how much I appreciate each and every one of you– I’m so glad to be part of your lives, even if it’s just in a small way and not in real life.  :)

  1. I so agree with you, the sewing community is so freaking awesome. I have never experience such a warm and encouraging community on and offline like it. Sewists/Stitchers have made my expat life so much better.

Anyhow, thanks for being thoughtful and giving back. I love fabric and wouldn’t mind adding that pretty red rayon to my stash.

Looking forward to seeing that Pattern Runway dress made. It’s such a pretty dress.

  2. I love that Debi came up with this idea, the sewing community really deserves some recognition! I would so like to be in for a chance of winning either of these lovely goodies, thanks for hosting such a generous giveaway!

  3. That’s some gorgeous fabric. Congrats on winning the Pattern Runway dress, can’t wait to see what you make!

  4. This community of ours is seven shades of incredible! May I throw my hat in the ring for the fabric? I would love a Jasmine/Taffy mash-up in that gorgeous colour! Pure summer on a snowy day…

  5. Wow, I had never heard of this holiday before. The crafting community really is so generous.

  6. I love your winnings! You are a lucky girl! That Pattern Runway dress is fabulous – I’ve been eyeing it too, but I need to figure out how to get rid of my underarm fat before I could wear something like that!

  7. oh that one shouldered dress is gorgeous! i am just getting to know the online sewing world but i love reading everyones sewing adventures! :)

  8. That one-shoulder dress is super cute. I can’t wait to see your version! I would love to win that gorgeous length of rayon; it would make a really lovely dress.

  9. I love that rayon — so perfect for a spring dress.

I’m quite taken with the Sew Grateful/giveaway event! I love the give and take of this crazy giant online sewing circle. If you’re interested in winning two vintage 1970s patterns, please stop by my blog and leave a comment.

  10. Oooohh pick me! Pick me! That fabulous rayon might be perfect for the dress I’m making for my friends’ wedding in April and June. The skirt is on the bias so I will be needing wide fabric.

On another note – wow, Ginger! Your luck sure was with you this weekend – you won two giveaways and made a shirt! Can you give me some of that luck? I definitely need it these day!

    P.S. Happy Sew Grateful Week!

  11. Amy

Congrats on winning two giveaways! I would like to throw my name in for your giveaways as well. If I had to choose, I’d prefer the fabric, but the yarn would finally push me into knitting – something I’ve wanted to take up for a very long time.

  12. Liz

Thanks for the giveaway. I’m grateful that I discovered your blog! Yours and others are such an inspiration to a relatively new sewist like me!

  13. That fabric is amazing! That is one of my new favorite colors!

  14. Grace

How wonderful and a little something for sewists and typists alike! I have loved following your blog and found lots of inspiration. Thanks for all the tips and the giveaway!

  15. You won two giveaways in one week? You lucky lady. Thanks for spreading the love to your readers. I would love to be in the running for the sock yarn. Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway – I’m sew grateful!

  16. Oh man, you’ve won (just typed “one.” it’s early.) some fabulous things! I was unaware of that pattern release. It’s a beautiful dress.

Awh, how nice of you! i LOVE that fabric, but I pretty much hoard sock yarn and would sleep with my stash if that were socially acceptable. I can’t pass up the opportunity to win some kpppm. Count me in!

  17. LOVING the Bow Dress ! What a beaut !I am sew grateful for folks like you ! I would be happy with either – but I have my eye totally on that red fabric ! You should check out my blog too – as I am also getting involved with the sewing love. xx

  18. Can I enter for both? Hee – I love fabric AND yarn, can’t pick just one!

  19. That coral rayon looks awesome! I’ll have to see if I can stalk Paron’s for it.

  20. That project runway dress is so cool, it’s going to look great on you! I can’t wait to see what you do with it, and with the knitting book. I love that coral rayon, it’s just luscious, but I have to say, I’d go for the yarn, personally!

  21. Marchelle

I love anything in the pink range. I’d be happy to take that rayon off your hands ;) . Then again those skeins would knit/crochet up nicely. eep, I can’t decide! Congrats on all your winnings, lucky duck!

  22. oh I’m so jealous. Yesterday I was trying to convince myself not to buy that Pattern runway pattern. I know I will succumb at some point. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out. Please count me in for the rayon fabric.

  23. Yay, glad you like the knitting book! Please count me in for the yarn. I think it would be hilarious (and possibly highly suspicious) if we both won each others giveaways…again! But still! :)

  24. Ginger, what a lovely giveaway for Sew Grateful …. I am dying to see your version of the pattern runway dress too ….. please could you enter me in for both the yarn & the coral fabric …. I’d be so thrilled (& grateful!) for having the chance to win either

  25. I can’t seem to get any comments to post these days so this is a gratuitous “count me in!” and test post. :) I kinda love that yarn….

  26. Congratulations!!! That is the pattern I have been drooling over from Pattern Runway. I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I would love to be thrown into the hat for the fabric.

  27. I’d love a chance to win either of these lovely prizes! :)
    Thanks for a great giveaway!
    Ashley x

  28. Kris

That coral fabric looks so lovely. Hopefully whoever wins sends you a pic of what they make with it.

    Happy Sew Grateful Week!

  29. Kat

Ooh great giveaway, the yarn is just divine, please count me in :)

  30. Congrats on your recent wins! I love vintage knitting books, but it’s harder to find the books for us guys. And when I do, the sizes are so small (or is it that I’m so large?). Mom mader herself a very chic lightweight wool suit in just that shade of coral – slim skirt and top that was part poncho, part jacket and part cape. Sorry, that’s the best description I give :) I’d love to be entered for the yarn. Thanks for the giveaways.

  31. ira

what a great giveaway. count me in please :D

  32. I love both yarn and fabric, but then I knit and sew and have stashes for both. Haven’t tried Koigu yarn before though.

  44. Love the fabric! Coral would be so lovely in so many iterations. I agree though, sewing without this online community would really take away my steam. It’s so inspiring to have all this enthusiasm and generosity easily accessible. :)

  45. The Pattern Runway Dress is really gorgeous, can’t wait to see the results. The coral fabric is an amazing giveaway! I’m really keen to make a lovely coral dress for summer. Sew Grateful week is such a brilliant idea!

I am drooling for that rayon! Dreaming of flow-y summer frocks. Ahhhh.

I don’t knit though. I do, just not well. Or consistently. It is beautiful, so I hope it goes to a good home!

I, on the other hand, will make a fabulous home for that rayon! Thanks!

  60. Anjomo

Such a lovely fabric! Thanks for being a part of sew grateful, I think it’s an awesome idea.

  61. Alexandrea M

Thank you so much for the giveaway! I am going to order the first pattern magic book, and I am wondering if that fabric is tough enough to make some of those designs, I can totally picture a few of them in that lovely color.

I just wanted to add that the renfrew top looks really professional, but I’m too lazy to leave a second message on that thread ;)

    gibbylet(at)gmail(dot)com

  62. I’m new to this crafting community… but I agree whole heartedly. Everyone has been very nice! Can’t wait to see your dress. Since I haven’t gotten a sewing machine, I’ve been knitting. the Koigu yarn is amazing!

  63. Kirsty

I feel terribly cheeky entering all of these giveaways. The merino yarn looks deliciously soft and it would be great to win that as I could knit something before winter (being in the southern hemisphere). Thanks for being so generous with your giveaways, what a lovely group of creators I’m lucky to hang out with online,

  64. jeannine

  67. Maria

Thank you very much for the giveaway! First I have to say I am jealous of the vintage knitting book. One of my next knitting projects is a cable knit cardigan – I’m sure there are some fantastic patterns in your book. Also, that one shoulder dress is beautiful and would lovely in the coral of your giveaway.
As you can see I’m a knitter and a sewer and would give both the coral fabric and the yarn a great new home and make something that would do them both justice!
The Online Sewing community is so wonderful and generous and kind. I have learned a lot from every single one and would like to thank you, Ginger, personally for everything you give us.

  68. Ela

Thank you for the giveaway! i am amazed at the generosity of the sewing community :) the yarn would be so wonderful as i just started to knit again :)

  69. Kristen

Ooh, I would love to win the yarn! Debi is an old friend of mine and I love to read her blog even though I don’t sew. (I could never measure up to my mom in sewing, so I knit instead!) I have 2 baby sweaters or vests to make for a friend’s twins (genders unknown) due this spring. The yarn would be great for coordinated sweaters (or vests). Thanks for the chance to enter!!!

  70. That fabric is just what I’ve been looking for! I would turn it into a skirt for summer!

  80. Marie

I like both the fabric and yarn, and think it is so nice of you to offer them !

  81. I might have long since divorced my husband and moved back to the US or Britain if it weren’t for the online sewing community helping me make connections despite the fact I live in a place where *no one* thinks like me and have very few friends. True story.

    I LOVE THAT DRESS!

    • That’s awesome! I used to be so bored and irritable on the weekends as my husband is a bit of a couch potato. It’s so nice to have something else to do and to have so much community and support online!
